Subspecies, varieties, forms and cultivars of plants belonging to the Echidnopsis scutellata group

  • Echidnopsis scutellata (Deflers) A.Berger: has leaves variously shaped. Ribs 8 to 15. Corolla 7-10 mm across flat campanulate. Walls of corolla-tube not touching staminal column. Origin: NE Africa and Arabia.
  • Echidnopsis scutellata subs. australis Bruyns: Flowers 6-9 mm in diameter. Distribution: Kenya.
  • Echidnopsis scutellata subs. dhofarensis Bruyns: has leaves less than two times longer than broad, early falling. Ribs 8. Flowers <10 mm across flat when fully open. Wall of corolla-tube adpressed to staminal column. Distribution Dhofar, Oman.
  • Echidnopsis scutellata subs. planiflora (P.R.O.Bally) Bruyns: has leaves more than three times longer than broad at base, persistent as spines. Distribution: Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti.
